Epithermal gold deposits are some of the richest gold deposits in the world, and are characterized by high grade, small tonnage, and shallow deposits. Low sulphide and high sulphide deposits are typical of volcanic or fault formations. Over the last million years, hydrothermal fluids in contact with rising molten magna deposited massive quartz, calcite and andularia veins, rich in gold, silver and other metals. Volcanic activity at subduction zones produced vein-style epithermal (shallow, heated fluid) mineral deposits near hot springs and calderas. Japan’s unique volcanic geology and strategic location along the Pacific Ring of Fire, has led to hundreds of years of gold mining. The world’s epithermal gold deposits occur along the Pacific Ring of Fire, which create the potential for mineral discoveries. The government imposed the closure of gold mines during World War II to redeploy the labour force into other sectors with limited production post-World War II. Although a few mines reop

Gold exploration and development project
The Ebino Project is located within the Hokusatsu district of the Southern Kyushu Epithermal Gold Province. The district contains Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd.'s, Hishikari Mine and three major historic gold mines, Kushikino, Yamagano and Ohkuchi. The Hishikari Mine, 9 million ounces of gold (8.6 Moz Au past production 1985-2024, 4.98 Moz Au reserves), is a concealed orebody discovered in 1981. Hishikari is one of the world's highest-grade gold mines and currently Japan's only active large-scale producing gold mine (Source:Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., LTD. Integrated Report, 2nd August 2024).Ebino is located approximately 10km north of the Hishikari Mine and approximately 8km east of the historic Ohkuchi Mine. Historic exploration completed mainly by the Metal Mining Agency of Japan confirmed the presence of three distinct alteration areas - Otsuka, Kuwanoki-zuru (“KZ”) and Masaki (refer to Figure 1). Limited historic drilling has been undertaken within the alteration zones.
The Hakuryu Project is located at the southern end of the 18km long Konomai epithermal gold district. Japan's third largest past producing gold mine, the Konomai Mine produced 2.35 million ounces of gold at an average grade of 6.4 g/t, between 1915 and 1973 (Source: Garwin, S.G. et al. 2005. Tectonic setting, Geology, and gold and copper mineralization in the Cenozoic magmatic arcs of Southeast Asia and the West Pacific. Economic Geology 100th Anniversary Vol. pp 891-930).
The Ikutahara Project contains up to 30 small historic mines and workings associated with epithermal veins, sinters and steam heated alteration. Japan Gold has identified a number of exploration targets. The key targets are the Kitano-O District prospect, the Saroma-Jomon corridor and the Ryuo prospect.
The Mizobe Project lies within the Hokusatsu Region of southern Kyushu, along the western edge of the Kagoshima Graben in a similar geological setting as the Hishikari Mine, located 23 km to the north. Hishikari is one of the highest-grade Tier 1 gold mines in the world. The Hishikari Mine produced approximately 9 million ounces of gold (8.6 Moz Au past production 1985-2024, 4.98 Moz Au reserves) at +20 g/t Au and is Japan’s only gold mine that is still operating today (Source: Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., LTD. Integrated Report, 2nd August 2024).
The North Taio Project is located 6km NE of the Taio Mine (15Moz Au @ 6.3g/t Au), known as the largest producer within the Middle Kyushu region.
The Sanru Projects includes a highly prospective ground position containing the eastern strike extension of the historical Sanru Mine vein structure, which was the second largest gold producer in North Hokkaido, producing 215,410 oz of gold at an average grade of 7.4 g/t Au, and over 1.4 Moz of silver.
The Togi Project is located in the central west part of Honshu Island on the Noto Peninsula, centred on the historic Togi Goldfield. A similarly oriented graben-gravity feature and Miocene host rocks are noted 160km along strike to the northeast on Sado Island, which hosted Japan's second largest gold mine, the Sado Mine, which produced 2.5 million ounces of gold until its closure in 1974.
