Metals required for decarbonization and clean energy technologies, including battery metals (lithium, nickel, cobalt), rare earths for magnets, copper for electrification, and silver for solar panels. Demand projected to grow 400-500% by 2040.

Why it matters

Copper is the least glamorous and most consequential of them. Every turbine, grid upgrade and vehicle needs it in tonnages nothing else matches, and no new metal substitutes for it.
